Report: Emergency Response - Disaster Relief and Rescue Operation Camp 2011/2012


Disaster Relief and Rescue Operation (DRRO) Camp is one of the annual activities organized by MMU’s Malaysian Red Crescent. It is an activity to train our members with basic skill in disaster management, and how to respond in the case of emergency happens around us. It is also an exposure to our new members, on the procedure of how our organization (Malaysian Red Crescent) responds to disaster, together with other organizations and authorities in Malaysia.

We manage to achieve the main objective of our program. The opening ceremony of the camp was official by Puan Fatimah (Chairman of Malaysian Red Crescent Selangor Branch).

Throughout the camp, the participants who most are new members and existing members as well as International new members of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) of MMU Cyberjaya Chapter were being exposed to the knowledge of disaster management and ways to response to disaster. The theoretical classes that have been conducted include:

1. Introduction to Standard Operation Procedure (SOP).
2. Role of Malaysian Red Crescent in disaster (Mock Meeting Psychological and Management).
3. Disaster preparedness, response & management of Malaysian Red Crescent.
4. Mass cooking and food distribution.
5. Introduction to Communications skills.
6. Introduction to Ambulance Responding & Transport item.

On 28th October 2011, VAD A and B having their practical on mass cooking in the evening. While another 2 VAD did their practical on the next day evening. They learn about the technique and knowledge of mass cooking during the camp.

There are four simulation on disaster conducted during the camp. 2 simulations conducted during day time, 1 simulation launched at night and 1 simulation conducted at 4.30am in the morning to evaluate the level of alert and consciousness of the members.

All works but no play, make Jake a dull boy. In order to learn through the camp, we also have some fun between it. Member enjoyed in Amazing Races which requires them to make up themselves into different costume and cooperative team. Besides that, committees having a lot of station game that look like Hai Dai Quan PK, Team Cooperation Games with the effect of this game quite good, members and committee are successful to bind together. A strong relationship between members was bonded through the activities. Feedback from international students saying that this is the best ever society they had joined.

The closing ceremony of the camp was official by Dr Chan Yee Kit (Chapter Chairman of Malaysian Red Crescent Multimedia University Cyberjaya Chapter).

This is our First Courses for DRRO camp, Mr Kadil from Selangor Branch to teach us about Introduction to Mass Cooking to all the members.


This is the second days of courses Disaster Preparedness and Management for DRRO camp 2011/2012 guided by Mr Dawood, and he also invites one of the volunteer members to present the steps for the situations.
