Thaipusam Duty

Date: 6 Feb 2012

Time: 8am – 9pm

Venue: Batu Cave, Gombak.

Thaipusam Duty is an annual duty for MMU RC, as a support team for Selangor Branch RC which in charge for first aid standby for the whole event. For sure, St John Ambulance are there as well, same goes to trainee from Masha College, Metropolitan etc. Unfortunately, this year Thaipusam fall on MMU exam week. All the volunteers are preparing themselves for their final exam. But thanks to Alvin Shin, Chai Sim Por, Goh Pei Gueh and Lau Zhi Wei who are willing to take over this duty. We choose the very first shift – morning shift on the Thaipusam eve. Our tasks are patrolling the dark cave and handle the first aid case. Besides, we are helping MRC to set up the base in the dark cave by carrying all the equipment from main base to the dark cave. Mr. Chai Sim Por has been assigned as the Official in Charge in dark cave along this duty.

Cyberjaya Campus

Voluntary Aid Detachment B (VAD B) is the first VAD that organized a X’mas party for all Red Crescent members and committees. This X’mas party was organized to bond the relationship between all Red Crescent members. The relationship between the members is enhanced through this event to achieve a better teamwork and higher commitment to the club. We organized this event in one of the committee’s house which is located at Equine Park, Seri Kembangan to celebrate this X’mas night party.

About 26 members and committees turned up to attend this party. Every member brought a gift for the gifts exchange session. The dinner started sharp at 7.30pm when everyone arrived. We socialized with each other in order to get to know everyone better. Around 9.30pm, we played the games and exchange gifts among each another.

In addition, we celebrated Alex Sim’s (one of Red Crescent member) birthday at 10.30pm. We sang a birthday song and prepared a birthday cake for him. After that, we ate and had fun together. Our event ended at 11pm and we cleaned up the venue. All members enjoyed the party and felt satisfied about it. It was a wonderful X-mas party that left a significant memory in everyone.

MSC CHAMPIONSHIP 2011 First Aid Duty

Date : 12^th -13^th November 2011.

Time : 9.00a.m. To 6.00p.m

Venue : Extreme Park Court @ Sunway South Quay

Organizer : Badminton Club from Multimedia University Cyberjaya Campus

On the first day on 12^th Nov 2011 started at 10.00a.m., I am the officer in charge to bring my two members from representative from VAD D to come for duty at the Extreme Park Court @ Sunway South Quay. Got 2 people injured with their legs, hand and muscles cramp during the event started. There also provided lucky draw, lunch and dinner to us as well. Due to the MSC committee’s arrangement, we are unable to back on time at 6.00pm; we need to duty until the games finished only can leave at 7.30pm sharp.

On the second day on 13^th Nov 2011, only Pong Chee Hong able to attend the first five hour for the MSC Championship for first aid duty at 10.00a.m, because I got General Chapter Meeting in MMU with Dr. Chan Yee Kit and Chapter committees from 10.30a.m till 1.00p.m, while another members named Sim Sai Hou got his important church at his hometown at Kuala Lumpur in the morning as well.

We reached at the duty place at 2.45pm due to the traffic jams and eat lunch. The competition on that day is semi-final and final games got 7 people injured during the event. For this moment, we are duty successfully and good response from Wilson Company and committee’s Badminton Club from MMU, Cyberjaya campus.

Appendix

We help to apply the Counter Pain to one of the Player named Calvin during the Final Stage of Double Men Competition.

We take the Plaster, Cotton, and Dettol apply in cotton and plaster to avoid the injured part expose to the environment.

At first, I stable Calvin’s right leg first because muscle cramp, after stable already I directly use counter pain to apply on his right leg and massage with his leg as well. While Chee Hong helps to take all the First Aid medicine for me, while Sim Sai Hou Help to take pictures for evidence.

After the competitions finished for first aid duty, I, Chee Hong, and Sim Sai Hou had started to have the group photos pictures to make sure we had done our Good Job under MSC Championship 2011.

Report: Emergency Response - Disaster Relief and Rescue Operation Camp 2011/2012

Disaster Relief and Rescue Operation (DRRO) Camp is one of the annual activities organized by MMU’s Malaysian Red Crescent. It is an activity to train our members with basic skill in disaster management, and how to respond in the case of emergency happens around us. It is also an exposure to our new members, on the procedure of how our organization (Malaysian Red Crescent) responds to disaster, together with other organizations and authorities in Malaysia.

We manage to achieve the main objective of our program. The opening ceremony of the camp was official by Puan Fatimah (Chairman of Malaysian Red Crescent Selangor Branch).

Throughout the camp, the participants who most are new members and existing members as well as International new members of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) of MMU Cyberjaya Chapter were being exposed to the knowledge of disaster management and ways to response to disaster. The theoretical classes that have been conducted include:

1. Introduction to Standard Operation Procedure (SOP).
2. Role of Malaysian Red Crescent in disaster (Mock Meeting Psychological and Management).
3. Disaster preparedness, response & management of Malaysian Red Crescent.
4. Mass cooking and food distribution.
5. Introduction to Communications skills.
6. Introduction to Ambulance Responding & Transport item.

On 28th October 2011, VAD A and B having their practical on mass cooking in the evening. While another 2 VAD did their practical on the next day evening. They learn about the technique and knowledge of mass cooking during the camp.

There are four simulation on disaster conducted during the camp. 2 simulations conducted during day time, 1 simulation launched at night and 1 simulation conducted at 4.30am in the morning to evaluate the level of alert and consciousness of the members.

All works but no play, make Jake a dull boy. In order to learn through the camp, we also have some fun between it. Member enjoyed in Amazing Races which requires them to make up themselves into different costume and cooperative team. Besides that, committees having a lot of station game that look like Hai Dai Quan PK, Team Cooperation Games with the effect of this game quite good, members and committee are successful to bind together. A strong relationship between members was bonded through the activities. Feedback from international students saying that this is the best ever society they had joined.

The closing ceremony of the camp was official by Dr Chan Yee Kit (Chapter Chairman of Malaysian Red Crescent Multimedia University Cyberjaya Chapter).

This is our First Courses for DRRO camp, Mr Kadil from Selangor Branch to teach us about Introduction to Mass Cooking to all the members.

This is the second days of courses Disaster Preparedness and Management for DRRO camp 2011/2012 guided by Mr Dawood, and he also invites one of the volunteer members to present the steps for the situations.

Report: Emergency Response - Mock Exercise with RapidKL

On 12th November 2011, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad had conducted an emergency response procedure (ERP) exercise in RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line LRT, at Taman Jaya Station. The purpose of the exercise is to test the ERP manual and assess the level of preparedness and efficiency of RapidKL staff and emergency rescue agencies in handling emergency situations, according to the CEO of RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line LRT.

The "incident" was a robbery on train by 3 men armed with pistol, knife and acid, captured staff and passenger of Kelana Jaya Line LRT, early in the morning around 1.00am.

Passenger on board had alerted the control center and police were standby at the LRT Station before the arrival of the train. Knowing the existence of Police, the robber threaten and force the train operator to operate the train in opposite direction, and eventually lead to a collision with the next train and caused massive injury.

The robbers eventually captured by D9 force of the police and the rescue operation started by the Fire and Rescue Department.

Malaysian Red Crescent(MRC) Selangor Branch was activated as part of emergency rescue team, assisting University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in handling and treating the “victims”. 30 members with 2 ambulances responded to this emergency alert sent by Sir Azizul (Chairman of Emergency Response, MRC Selangor Branch) earlier at 9.05pm, to access the response time of the member of MRC Selangor Branch towards emergency cases.

The main role of MRC in this rescue operation is to treat and transport the "victims" to nearest hospital.

In this exercise, members were exposed to proper procedure on emergency response and how to coordinate with other agencies such as police, Fire and Rescue Department, hospital etc.

1. Will donating blood hurt???
♥ Donating blood is not painful. It may feel like a slight pinch or sting when the needle is first inserted, but there is no pain during the donation.
♥ Donating blood hurts a lot less comparing to someone who needs the blood to survive

2. How long will it take to replenish the pint???
♥ Blood volume and plasma are replaced within 24 hours. Red cells need about 4 to 8 weeks for complete replacement. You can donate again in 56 days or 8 weeks.

3. I don't have time???
♥ It doesn't take long: about 45 minutes in all from arrival to departure.

4. I might catch something from donating???
♥ Donations are drawn using sterile equipment that is disposed of after a single use, and the professionals who draw your blood wear sterile latex gloves that are disposed of immediately after use on a single patient. At no time will you come in contact with any piece of equipment or material that has had contact with blood or body fluids of someone else.

5. I take medication, so I can't donate???
♥ Depending on what medication you're on, it may halt donation for a period, though in many cases it won't prevent you from donating at all. It's always a good idea to inform nursing staff of this before attending a donation session.、

6. I'm too old/ young???
♥ The age limit is 18-60. For those who is 61-65, you have to get the certified document about your health situation from doctor. So long as you are healthy and weigh at least 45 kg, you can continue to contribute to your community.
♥ Once you turn 18 with weight at least 45 kg, you can make a real grown-up contribution to your community.

7. I can't donate my blood because I'm a vegetarian which means my blood doesn't have enough iron in it???
♥ There's no problem with vegetarians giving blood, the iron needed is taken from stores in the body, and are replaced after donation. Provided you have a balanced diet, you should be able to replenish your iron supply within a month. Vegetarians may take a little longer though to make up their iron levels after a donation.

8. I am a International Students, can I donate?
♥ Yes, you can donate, with the conditions that you have stay in Malaysia for at least 1 year without leaving Malaysia within the period.

9. Others~
♥ You will not faint or feel uncomfortable after donating blood. This is a common misconception.

♥ You wont feel drained or tired if you continue to drink fluids and have a good meal.

♥ You can resume your normal activities after donating blood, though you are asked to refrain from exercise or heavy weight lifting for twelve hours after donation.

♥ Donating blood will not leave you low of blood; in fact you will still have surplus blood after the donation.

♥ If you choose to consume alcohol, you can on the next day.

♥ Even if your blood type is common there is still a requirement. Patients are just like donors - most of them have common blood types. Because your blood type is common, the demand for that type is greater than for rare types.

Report: VAD D Commandant - VAD D Outing

This outing was organized to bond all the Red Crescent members. A good relationship among the members is very important for a society. We went to Ulu Yam and we BBQ there. Besides that, we also played games in the river.

Voluntary Aid Detachment D (VAD D) is the first VAD that organized an outing to all the Red Crescent members and committees. We went to the venue of the outing by MMU bus. Besides, we also brought a lots of food there to BBQ. We gathered at 10am and started our journey at 10.30am. We chit-chatting with each other in the bus to break the ice. We reached our venue at about 12pm. Then we started to make the fire for BBQ purpose. After that we ate and had fun together. Our event ended at 4pm and we back to MMU Cyberjaya.

Dear all,

Disaster Relief and Rescue Operation (DRRO) Camp is one of the annual activities organized by Malaysian Red Crescent Multimedia University Cyberjaya Chapter. It is an activity to train our members with basic skill in disaster management, and how to respond in the case of emergency happens around us.

It is also an exposure to our new members, on the procedure of how Malaysian Red Crescent responds to disaster, together with other organizations and authorities in Malaysia. Join this camp you will have the chances to apply all the things you learned in the first aid course into the real situation. It is challenging and definitively a new experience for you all.

Besides, it is part of the 7 courses which is required in order for you to get an instructor certification. So, do grab this opportunity to acquire the certificate as soon as possible as it only offered once a year.

We do hope that you can response and provide feedback to us immediately.

♥ Donations are drawn using sterile equipment that is disposed of after a single use, and the professionals who draw your blood wear sterile latex gloves that are disposed of immediately after use on a single patient. At no time will you come in contact with any piece of equipment or material that has had contact with blood or body fluids of someone else.

5. I take medication, so I can't donate???

♥ Depending on what medication you're on, it may halt donation for a period, though in many cases it won't prevent you from donating at all. It's always a good idea to inform nursing staff of this before attending a donation session.、

6. I'm too old / young???

♥ The age limit is 18-60. For those who is 61-65, you have to get the certified document about your health situation from doctor. So long as you are healthy and weigh at least 45 kg, you can continue to contribute to your community.
♥ Once you turn 18 with weight at least 45 kg, you can make a real grown-up contribution to your community.

7. I can't donate my blood because I'm a vegetarian which means my blood doesn't have enough iron in it???

♥ There's no problem with vegetarians giving blood, the iron needed is taken from stores in the body, and are replaced after donation. Provided you have a balanced diet, you should be able to replenish your iron supply within a month. Vegetarians may take a little longer though to make up their iron levels after a donation.

8. I am a International Students, can I donate?

♥ Yes, you can donate, with the conditions that you have stay in Malaysia for at least 1 year without leaving Malaysia within the period.

9. Others~

♥ You will not faint or feel uncomfortable after donating blood. This is a common misconception.

♥ You wont feel drained or tired if you continue to drink fluids and have a good meal.

♥ You can resume your normal activities after donating blood, though you are asked to refrain from exercise or heavy weight lifting for twelve hours after donation.

♥ Donating blood will not leave you low of blood; in fact you will still have surplus blood after the donation.

♥ If you choose to consume alcohol, you can on the next day.

♥ Even if your blood type is common there is still a requirement. Patients are just like donors - most of them have common blood types. Because your blood type is common, the demand for that type is greater than for rare types.

Dear all,

For the convenience for you to prepare the necessities needed during Binding Trip 2011, here is the checklist for things to bring and not to bring:

Compulsory:
1. Jacket
2. Personal hygiene (towel, shampoo/soaps, brush, toothpaste, etc)
3. Long pants/track suits
4. Short pants
5. Torchlight - Spare Batteries
6. Personal medicine
7. Sport Shoe
8. Slipper

Optional:
1. Sleeping Bag
2. Sunscreen
3. Insect Repellent / Spray
4. Drinking water/ bottle

Prohibited:
1. Jewelry
2. Cigarette
3. Alcohol
4. Food (except those in packaging)

Ps:
1. Things that not mentioned in the list, you can bring it as well if you feel you need it, except those listed in prohibited section.
2. We will not responsible to find you a replacement for anything that you leave behind. So, please be wise in packing your bag.
